Green Bay, Wis. - Host Green Bay used a 20-2 run late in the first half to take control and cruised from there, knocking off Loyola, 72-49, this afternoon at the Kress Center in Green Bay, Wis. Loyola drops back to the .500 mark (13-13, 7-8 Horizon) with the loss while Green Bay improves to 22-3 (11-3).
Loyola spotted the Phoenix an early 10-2 lead before the Ramblers were able to find their feet. Keisha Collins knocked down a pair of jumpers and Maggie McCloskey nailed a three-pointer to draw LU within four, 13-9. A trey from Katie Kortekamp minutes later made it a 17-14 game before Green Bay went on its game-changing run. Loyola missed four shots and turned it over seven times in the spurt that ended with the Ramblers facing a 37-16 deficit. After a timeout, Loyola was able to regroup, scoring the next seven points to stem the tide before heading to the locker room down 41-25.
Three Collins free throws opened the second-half scoring but Green Bay got hot from the arc and was able to pull away.
Loyola shot a respectable 49% for the game but were outrebounded by 10 (32-22) and turned the ball over a season-high 30 times, leading to 33 GB points.
Collins led the way with 14 points and was joined in double figures by Elyse VanBogaert (10 points). Celeste Hoewisch led four Green Bay players in double figures with 16 points.
The Ramblers have a full week off before taking on UIC next Saturday at the UIC Pavilion.
