Loyola Falls To South Carolina At FAU Milken Tournament

Feb. 27, 2010

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - South Carolina (8-4) scored eight runs over the first three innings to take control of the game en route to a 15-1 victory over Loyola University Chicago (1-2) this afternoon at the FAU Milken Tournament. USC capitalized on seven Rambler errors, scoring nine unearned runs.

The Gamecocks jumped on the board in the top of the first when April Borchardt led off with a walk and later scored on Laura Mendes' single. Mendes herself came around to score two hitters later thanks to Lindsay Walker's double.

Loyola stole momentum back in the bottom half of the inning however, as Ellen Kresl led off with a triple to right center and scored on Lauren Arceneaux's sacrifice bunt to bring the Ramblers within a run, at 2-1.

South Carolina stormed ahead with four runs in the top of the second inning however and would never look back. Evan Childs provided the big blow in the inning with a two-run single to left field.

Arceneaux went 2-for-3 with a stolen base to lead Loyola's offense, which managed seven hits on the day.

Loyola faces Florida Atlantic this afternoon.
