LINCOLN- The Loyola women's soccer team faced a strong offensive effort from Creighton on Sunday afternoon, as the Bluejays soared past the Ramblers 5-0 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
With the loss, Loyola moves to 0-4 on the season. Back-to-back wins this weekend improves Creighton to 2-1-1.
Nikki Staton almost gave Loyola the early lead at the 13th minute mark, with a shot that missed left of the Bluejay net. The Ramblers managed a total of four shots in the first-half, all neglecting the back of the goal. From here, Creighton's offense went to work.
With seven minutes remaining until the break, the Bluejays netted a pair of goals within a two-minute span, with the first score coming at the 38th minute mark, followed by another successful attempt at the 40th minute mark. Erin Gunther and Brittany Neumann picked up the goals for Creighton.
As the horn sounded for halftime, Creighton held a 2-0 lead.
Despite firing five more shots in the second frame, providing much needed scoring opportunities, the Loyola offense couldn't find the scoreboard on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Creighton stepped up its offensive attack, finding three more goals on the day, ending the contest with the 5-0 win.
Both teams attempted three corner kicks each in the game. Creighton was called for 18 fouls to Loyola's eight.
Maggie Doe led the Ramblers with two shots, one attempt on goal. Loyola goalkeeper Katie Groesch was busy between the posts on the afternoon, making five saves on 11 Bluejay shots. Groesch has made 13 total saves this season.
The Loyola women's soccer team will return home for two matches next weekend, beginning with Big Ten member Iowa on September 3 at the Loyola Soccer Park. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
