Peoria, Ill. - Junior Gina Valgoi finished second overall in the women's 6K race as Loyola competed at the Bradley Classic at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Loyola's men's team took fifth out of 19 teams with 134 team points while the women (235 points) finished 11th in the 21-team field.

Valgoi was outstanding en route to leading the Rambler women's team. Valgoi posted a time of 20:59, finishing just three seconds behind Illinois State's Krista Deceault in the field of 230 runners. Sophomore Megan Janezic continued her solid form, finishing 23rd in 22:04, while Alyvia Clark was the third Rambler across the line, taking 63rd in 22:49. Catherine Crisler (77th, 23:01) and Liz Butler (88th, 23:12) rounded out Loyola's five scorers.

Freshman Niki Drolshagen was just behind Butler, taking 98th in 23:24, with Mary Whitmore (131st, 23:55), Ally Spiroff (136th, 23:59), Holly Rhode (159th, 24:34), Kelly Egan (166th, 24:50), Ashley Wile (183rd, 25:26) and Jenn Bane (184th, 25:27) also competing.

"Clearly the highlight of the meet was Gina's performance," said head coach Randy Hasenbank. "She ran a tremendous race today and being able to break 22 minutes on the clock is fantastic. Megan also ran very well, arguably one of the best races of her career, and it was great to see both of them run so well against a good field."

Loyola's men's team was led by senior Josh Stein. Stein finished 18th out of 188 competitors with a final time of 25:21. Hot on his heels was freshman Sam Penzenstadler, who finished 20th in 25:25. The trio of Andrew Fenske, Danny Docherty and Ben Reifenberg, who returned to the lineup after being sidelined by injury, wrapped up the scoring for the Ramblers. The group finished 31st, 32nd and 33rd, respectively, with Fenske leading the way with his time of 25:43.

Alex Thornburg added a top-50 finish, taking 44th in 26:05 with Jared Skrabacz (54th, 26:15), Jake Autio (55th, 26:16), Oscar Aguinaga (75th, 26:33), Nolan Fine (98th, 26:55), Khushpal Sangha (123rd, 27:20) and Brian Peters (143rd, 27:56) rounding out the list of Loyola runners.

"I thought the men ran well as a pack," continued Hasenbank. "Sam had another great race and it was nice to see Alex, Jake and Andy run well too."

Loyola now has two weeks to prepare for the Horizon League Championship. The meet will be contested on Oct. 29 in Cleveland, Ohio.
