DAYTON, Ohio - The Loyola men's soccer team (3-10-1, 1-4-0 Horizon League) suffered a 3-1 defeat against Wright State (7-5-2, 3-1-1 Horizon League) tonight in Dayton, Ohio. The Raiders got the best of the Ramblers, scoring three goals in the match, but a late goal by freshman Andrew Raymonds denied the shutout.
Wright State was able to break through the defensive line and notch two goals in the first half to send the Ramblers into intermission with a 2-0 deficit. Will McAteer scored his first goal of the season, unassisted in the eleventh minute, and Brian Cothern collected the game-winner 20 minutes later at the 31:08 mark.
At 79:01, the Raiders tallied another point to further their lead over the Ramblers. McAteer scored his second goal of the match, launching a bullet through the Loyola defense and past the goalie.
The Ramblers saw many scoring opportunities with 12 shot attempts and seven corner kicks in the contest, but were unable to capitalize until 81:25 when Raymonds attacked the net off of a long-ball assist from keeper Peter McKeown.
Junior Eric Nock led the way for the Ramblers after an impressive performance up front, finishing with five total shots, three on goal. Justin Koehler and James Howe each added two shots, while Erik Warren and Brian Bement rounded out the team total with a shot apiece. Peter McKeown started in the net for the Ramblers and gathered seven saves along with the assist.
Wright State held the edge in shots (19-12) but Loyola owned the 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Craig Feehan, in goal for the Raiders, pulled together six saves on the night.
