ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Senior Eric Nock netted a pair of goals as the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team fell to a nationally ranked Michigan side in its first action of the 2013 regular season by a final score of 5-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. this afternoon.

"Today was a humbling experience for us against a very good Michigan team," said Loyola head men's soccer coach Neil Jones. "In order to earn results on the road against quality opponents, you must stay disciplined defensively at all times and limit your mistakes. Michigan punished us for our miscues and we can take that valuable lesson away from today. Now we move on to our home opener against Grand Canyon where we look forward to putting in a good performance in front of our home crowd."

Loyola wasted little time in attacking the Michigan net. Sophomore Jake Savino's early attempt would be saved by Wolverine netminder Adam Grinwis prior to junior Brian Bement's header floating wide of the near post in the third minute.

Sophomore Tim Dobrowolski, making only his fifth collegiate start, made an early save on an attempt by James Murphy. Michigan's best opportunity of the early stages came in the 18th minute when a TJ Roehn volley sailed high of the Loyola goal. The Wolverines would breakthrough in the 32nd minute when Murphy finished off of a through ball by Roehn, giving Michigan a 1-0 lead.

That lead would be short lived, however, when the recently substituted Nock tucked a shot into the lower left corner of Grinwis' net to level the match at 1-1 in the 35th minute. Sophomore Dane Bergstrom was credited with the assist on the goal. The goal was the first for the Cincinnati, Ohio product since 2011.

The beginning of the second half saw Michigan immediately pressure the Rambler net, forcing a save from Dobrowolski after an Ezekiel Harris' header in the 46th minute. Murphy would score his second goal of the afternoon off a service from the corner by Tyler Arnone to reclaim the lead for the Wolverines. Just four minutes later, TJ VanSlooten added a third goal as he headed home a loose ball from six yards out following a free kick.

Roehn would add another for Michigan in the 73rd minute when he sent a cross from Malcolm Miller into the lower left corner, extending the Wolverine lead to 4-1. Nock would draw Loyola back within two, scoring off a free kick from 25 yards out before VanSlooten answered back two minutes later, reestablishing a three-goal lead for his side that would hold until the final whistle.

Loyola will return to action on Monday afternoon in its 2013 home opener. Kickoff against the Grand Canyon Antelopes is slated for 1 p.m. at Loyola Soccer Park.
