CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago's cross country and track and field programs welcome two new additions to the coaching staff, announced head coach Randy Hasenbank. Alyvia Clark has been hired as an assistant coach while Mircea Bogdan will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.
Clark, a recent Loyola graduate, was a member of the women's track and field/XC team for four years. In March, Clark became Loyola's first female track athlete to earn a Missouri Valley Conference title after winning both the mile and the 3,000m at the indoor conference championships. The two-time NCAA Midwest Regional qualifier also notched runner-up finishes in the 1,500m and 5,000m at the 2014 MVC Outdoor Championships. She appears on Loyola's all-time top-10 lists in five events, holding the second-fastest time in school history in the mile, 1,500m and 3,000m.
Bodgan comes to Loyola from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania where he served as a graduate assistant coach for two years. A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Bogdan was crowned the NCAA Champion in the 3,000m steeplechase in 2005, followed by a runner-up performance in 2006. He earned NCAA All-America honors in cross country after placing 22nd at the national meet in 2003. Bogdan also found success at the post-collegiate level, including qualifying to represent Romania in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2008 Olympic Games. He is also a three-time Romanian National Champion in the event.
