ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Loyola University Chicago softball team racked up 10 runs on 12 hits en route to a run-rule victory over Evansville on Sunday. Katy LaCivita led the hot Rambler offense, batting three-for-four with two RBI, while Jacquelyn Murphy, Brooke Wyderski and Jamie O'Brien also added two RBI apiece. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 10-12 overall and 2-0 in MVC play.
Both teams were held scoreless until the third inning, as Jessica Balzano led off the top of frame with a walk before making her way around the bases to score. Jamie O'Brien then walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Katy LaCivita brought her home with an RBI single, giving the Ramblers a 2-0 lead.
Hannah Jenkins reached base on an error to begin the fourth inning before advancing to third on a double by Annie Korth. Erica Nagel hit an infield single to load the bases before Jacquelyn Murphy entered the game and knocked in Jenkins with a single. The Ramblers continued to rally, as Brooke Wyderski and Jamie O'Brien each hit two-run doubles to increase Loyola's lead to 7-0.
The Ramblers scored again in the top of the fifth on a single from Murphy before Evansville got on the board at the bottom of the inning, leading off the frame with a double before an RBI triple made the score 8-1. Loyola responded in the top of the sixth by knocking in two more runs on a LaCivita single and a sacrifice fly by Jenkins to take a 10-1 lead. Madison Hope and the Rambler defense then held Evansville scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win the game in run-rule fashion.
Hope (5-6) picked up the win for the Ramblers, giving up just five hits and striking out three en route to a complete-game victory.
