How it Happened
After McKendree scored the first two points of set one, Loyola responded by scoring three unanswered, including a kill and a service ace from Nicholas Olson, to take the lead. The Ramblers never surrendered the lead, going on to outhit McKendree .214 to .143 and tally nearly double as many kills as the Bearcats. Loyola recorded five service aces in the first set, including two apiece from Olson and Trevor Novotny.

The two teams traded points to open the second set before Loyola scored three unanswered, including a Novotny kill and a double stuff from Jeff Jendryk and Peter Hutz, to take a 12-9 lead. After the Bearcats managed to rally and cut the deficit to one point, Olson scored three of the next four, including two kills and a service ace, to put Loyola back on top, 19-16. The Ramblers went on to claim set two behind a .417 hitting clip while holding McKendree to .179.

McKendree raced out to an 8-4 lead to open the third set, but Loyola rallied to score five of the next six points and tie it up. The Ramblers then put together multiple runs of back-to-back points before a Jendryk service gave Loyola its largest lead of the set at 18-13. The Bearcats managed to cut the deficit to two, but Ryan Jamison led a three-point run to give Loyola a 21-16 lead and put away the set, as the Ramblers went on to win it 25-19.
