Balanced Offense Pushes No. 11 Loyola Past McKendree, 3-0

In Short…
Three Ramblers recorded double-digit kills as No. 11 Loyola swept McKendree (25-18, 28-26, 25-20) on Saturday night. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in MIVA play, while the Bearcats drop to 3-6 (3-5 MIVA).

Collin Mahan led the Ramblers with a career-high 13 kills, while Ricky Gevis and Jeff Jendryk added 12 and 11, respectively. Mahan also added a team-high nine digs, while Nick Olson and Cole Murray posted three block assists apiece.

How it Happened
The Ramblers raced out to a 7-2 lead to open the contest, as a service ace from Collin Mahan capped a three-point Loyola run. The Ramblers held onto the steady lead until McKendree rallied to pull within one, but Loyola then scored five of the next six points, including three kills from Jeff Jendryk, to up the score to 18-13. The Ramblers never looked back, going on to win the set, 25-18, after outhitting the Bearcats .542 to .227.

Loyola led a balanced attack in a back-and-forth second set that featured 11 tie scores and three lead changes. After a kill from Mahan gave Loyola the 23-21 lead, McKendree scored four of the next five points to take the 25-24 advantage. The Ramblers fought off the set point and went on to claim the set behind kills from Ricky Gevis and Cole Murray, capped by a Bearcat error. Gevis led the Ramblers with six kills in the second set, while Mahan, Jendryk and Murray each added four apiece.

The third set featured 13 tie scores and four lead changes, as the two teams swapped points until Loyola scored six unanswered to take a 23-19 lead. Gevis recorded two kills in the stretch, while Cole Murray added two service aces. Loyola held McKendree to a match-low .118 hitting clip in the third set, as the Ramblers tallied 19 digs, including a combined 14 from Collin Mahan, Peter Hutz and Cole Murray. Mahan led the offense, recording six kills on 12 swings.

- Loyola posted a hitting clip of .366, marking the third consecutive match that the Ramblers have hit above .300.
- Collin Mahan led the Ramblers with a career-high 13 kills, committing just two attack errors on 24 swings to post a .478 hitting clip.
