How It Happened
Loyola scored the first two points of set one and never surrendered the lead, as Lindenwood only managed to tie the score twice throughout the set. The balanced offense saw five different Ramblers record at least two kills during the set, with the team committing just one attack error. Lindenwood tallied four more kills than Loyola in set one, but committed seven more attack errors.
Set two saw the teams battle back-and-forth, as there were four lead changes and 15 tie scores. After trading points, Loyola took the 17-16 lead on a three-point run, capped by a Trevor Novotny service ace. The Ramblers never trailed after that point, upping the score on kills from Collin Mahan, Jeff Jendryk and Novotny before an Olson kill ended the set. Loyola was led by Olson and Jendryk in the second set, as the pair combined for nine of the team's 13 kills.
The Ramblers fell behind 11-14 in the third set, but rallied to score five of the next six points and take the lead, led by kills from Ricky Gevis and Peter Hutz. Loyola continued to up the score on a 4-1 run, capped by back-to-back blocks from Olson, before Gevis fired three straight kills to give the Ramblers the 24-18 advantage. A kill from Novotny then sealed the victory for the Ramblers.
