In Short...
Loyola battled back with a run in the top of the sixth to draw even but DePaul scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to earn a 2-1 win over the Ramblers this afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium in Lincoln Park.
Loyola slips to 18-15 while the Blue Demons improve to 17-20.
Coach Jeff Tylka Says...
"We gave them two unearned runs and that was the game. We need to throw it and catch it better this weekend. Our hitters made some adjustments at the plate as the game went on but we did not do that soon enough."
How It Happened
+ Keenan Dolezal was impressive in just her second start of the season, but Dylan Christensen led off the third with a double and came around on a single from Maize to give DePaul the early lead
+ Loyola could not do anything with a leadoff walk in the fourth and Ashley Parenti gave the Ramblers their first hit with a two-out single in the fifth
+ Erica Nagel reached third base to lead off the sixth and, one out later, Brooke Wyderski knocked her in with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1
+ However, Maize drew a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the inning and pinch-runner Cherelle Chambers advanced to second on a ground out
+ Chambers then stole third and came in to score on a throwing error to give DePaul the lead back and Maize closed it out with a perfect top of the seventh
Inside The Box Score
+ The RBI was Wyderski's 32nd run batted in of the season, which moves her into a tie with Jenna Grim for ninth on Loyola's single-season list
+ This was Dolezal's second start of the season and first since Feb. 14 against Murray State
+ The Barrington native allowed just the one run on four hits in 4.1 innings
+ Katy LaCivita stayed hot with another hit to up her average to .344 for the season
