In Short...
Visiting Illinois State pushed across five runs in the third inning and never looked back en route to a 6-0 win over Loyola in game two of a doubleheader this afternoon at Loyola Softball Park.

Coach Tylka Says...
"It was not a case of not being able to get runners on base today but we struggled to find hole in key situations. Jamie (O'Brien) is starting to come around at the plate and Erica (Nagel) had three more hits today."

How It Happened
+ Illinois State put runners on first and second with one out in the first inning but Brie Pasquale turned a nice 5-3 double play to get the Ramblers out of trouble
+ Loyola had a great chance to open the scoring in the bottom of the second as Katie Kasubke opened the inning with a double and was bunted to third base with one but Finck got a big strikeout for the second out before centerfielder Annie Heineman made a terrific running catch on a Katy LaCivita fly ball to end the inning
+ The Redbirds took control in the third, scoring five runs on five hits to open up a lead
+ Loyola tried to rally in the fourth, as Jamie O'Brien and Kasubke opened the inning with back-to-back singles but a strikeout and a 6-4-3 double play ended the threat
+ Illinois State added an insurance run in the sixth and LU tried to mount one last comeback attempt in the seventh, with Pasquale and Jacquelyn Murphy leading off the inning with base hits, but another double play helped seal the sweep for the Redbirds

Inside The Box Score
+ Kasubke had two more hits to lead the offense and her second-inning double was her first extra-base hit since she homered against Northern Illinois on March 13
+ Nagel went 1-for-3 and has hit in 34 of LU's 40 games this season
+ Loyola used three pitchers in the game, with Madison Hope (2.2 IP, 1 R) and Keenan Dolezal (1.2 IP, 0 R) providing good work out of the bullpen
+ The Ramblers were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and just 2-for-13 with people on base in the game

Next Up
The teams wrap up their three-game weekend series with a single game tomorrow at Noon.
