CHICAGO (October 1, 2017)

In Short
Gabi Maciagowski tallied a season-high 17 kills but it wasn't enough as Loyola University Chicago (1-14, 0-4 MVC) dropped a 19-25, 15-25, 25-18, 16-25 decision to Valparaiso (8-8, 1-3 MVC) this afternoon at Gentile Arena. The loss is the Ramblers' ninth straight since a four-set victory over Samford.

How It Happened
Valparaiso broke free in the first set, taking advantage of a 9-2 run to open up a 12-5 lead on the way to a 25-19 victory.

Loyola dug itself a 5-0 hole at the outset of set two and the deficit would grow to 14-4 as the Crusaders rolled to a 25-15 decision thanks to the Ramblers hitting just -.032 (8-9-31) in the set.

Another slow start plagued Loyola in the third set, but the Ramblers righted the ship after Valpo tallied the first three points. With the score tied at 9, Quinn Spieker's kill sparked an 8-2 Rambler run that gave the hosts a 17-11 advantage that would grow to as many as eight points (22-14). Delilah Wolf finished off the scoring with a service ace to cap a 25-18 Loyola victory that kept the Ramblers alive and sliced Valpo's lead in the match in half.

However, Valpo bounced back to hit a sizzling .500 (17-2-30) in the fourth set and its 6-2 surge turned an 8-8 tie into a 14-10 lead as it collected a 25-16 victory to win the match.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Maciagowski's 17 kills were her most since registering 24 at Drake on November 12, 2016.
  • Spieker added 11 kills and a career-best 19 digs, while Elle Van Grinsven chipped in eight kills and five blocks.
  • Taylor Graboski led Valpo with 13 kills.

Up Next
Loyola will play six of its next eight matches away from home beginning with a contest at Illinois State Friday night (Oct. 6).
