CHICAGO (October 13, 2017) – After picking up a road result at Drake last Saturday, the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team will be on the move again this weekend as it travels to Evansville, Ind. for a Saturday evening clash with the Evansville Purple Aces at 5 p.m. from Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Â
Last Time Out: Loyola played host Drake to a scoreless draw, 0-0, in double overtime last Saturday at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. Junior
Fabian Lifka tallied a pair of attempts in the offensive third, while freshman goalkeeper
Evan Konermann turned in his second impressive start between the pipes in as many games, recording six saves en route to his first collegiate shutout.
Â
vs. Evansville: Evansville snapped a four-game winless run by downing visiting Belmont, 3-2, in double overtime this past Tuesday to bring its record on the year to 6-5-1.  The Purple Aces own a league mark of 0-2-1, putting them level on points with the Ramblers in the conference table. Preseason All-MVC pick Ian McGrath leads the attack for Marshall Ray's team.  McGrath, who was also selected to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, has found the back of the net a team-high eight times on the year.  Adam Snow (four goals) and Caleb Williams (three goals) have also provided support in the offensive third. Frederik Reimer has started in each of the team's last eight games in goal.  The Purple Aces' netminder sports a 1.64 goals against average.
Â
Series Stuff: Saturday's matchup will mark the 19th time Loyola and Evansville have clashed in men's soccer, with all but five meetings coming when the two schools were members of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC). Evansville owns a commanding 15-2-1 edge in the all-time series.  In last season's matchup, Lifka cancelled out a goal from Jared Robinson to help secure the Maroon & Gold a 1-1 double-overtime draw against the Purple Aces. Loyola and Evansville will wrap up their two-game season series when the Purple Aces travel to Loyola Soccer Park on Nov. 4 in what will serve as the regular season finale for both teams.
Â
After This: Loyola returns home to host city rival DePaul on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. in the latest installment of the Red Line Rivalry. Tuesday's meeting with the Blue Demons begins a stretch that sees the Ramblers play three of their final five games within the friendly confines of Loyola Soccer Park.Â
