CHICAGO (October 6, 2017) – The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team opens up a challenging Missouri Valley Conference road stretch on Saturday night when it takes on Drake. Kickoff from the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: Loyola battled city rival UIC to a 1-1 draw in double overtime this past Tuesday at Loyola Soccer Park. Senior
Kyle Thomson scored his third goal of the season, converting from the penalty spot, to put the Ramblers on the board first before Oscar Gonzalez pulled the visitors from the west side level. Freshman goalkeeper
Evan Konermann turned in a solid effort in his collegiate debut, making five saves.
vs. Drake: Drake will be looking to snap a brief two-game skid that has seen the Bulldogs record slip to 3-8-0 on the year. That mark includes a 0-3-0 ledger in Missouri Valley Conference play. Leroy Enzugusi has spearheaded the attack for head coach Gareth Smith's team through the opening 11 games of the year. Enzugusi has netted a team-high four goals, a mark that ties him for fifth overall in the Valley. Nic Jaimes ranks second on the team in scoring with two tallies. Goalkeeper Caden McCullough has been a mainstay in goal so far this season for the Bulldogs, playing in every minute of every game. McCullough sports a 1.88 goals against average and a 0.696 save percentage in his 11 starting appearances.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Drake will meet for the 14th time on Saturday evening in Iowa's state capital. The Ramblers swept the season series between the two teams last season to trim the Bulldogs' lead in the all-time series to 7-4-2. In the clash between the two teams last season in Des Moines,
Grant Stoneman scored in the dying seconds of regulation to give the Maroon & Gold a thrilling 1-0 victory. The win was Loyola's first on the road against Drake in program history.
After This: Loyola stays on the road next Saturday (Oct. 14) when it takes on Evansville at 5 p.m.
