Ramblers Lift Lid On 2017-18 Season At Fort Wayne On Sunday

Opening Tip
- Loyola officially raises the curtain on its 2017-18 season on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CT) when it takes on Fort Wayne at the Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
- Head coach Kate Achter is set to begin her second year at the head of the Loyola bench this season. Achter was named the ninth head coach in program history on July 19, 2016. .
- Achter returns an experienced group of six letterwinners from last season, including the three of the team's four leading scorers.
- The Maroon & Gold's ranks will be bolstered by the addition of six newcomers.Five freshmen are set to make their respective collegiate debuts this season, including in-state products Kat Nolan and Kailyn Strawbridge.  Graduate transfer Jessica Cerda will also look to provide depth for Achter's team.
-  When the NCAA released the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data earlier this week, Loyola was tied with five other schools, including four Ivy League members, for the No. 1 spot in the nation at 99 percent. This marks the second straight year that Loyola has shared the top GSR position among NCAA Division I institutions.
 
Loyola – Fort Wayne - The Series
- Loyola and Fort Wayne will meet for only the second time on Sunday afternoon. 
- In the only previous meeting between the two schools, Loyola rolled to an 82-61 win in Rogers Park back on Nov. 15, 2013 as part of the Women's Preseason National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Troy Hambric led the Ramblers with 20 points and eight rebounds in the victory. 
- Loyola holds a 8-3 record (.727) in 11 previous meetings with current Summit League teams. The Ramblers last matchup with current member of the conference came back on Nov. 23, 2013, an 89-79 win at Western Illinois. 
 
Rumbling Ahead
- Fort Wayne, which opened its season with a 64-50 road loss at Illinois on Friday afternoon, finished the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 5-24 that included a 2-14 mark in Summit League play.
- The Mastodons, who were picked eighth in the conference's preseason poll, sport one of the youngest rosters in Division I basketball, returning only four letterwinners from last season.  
- Leading the way for the group of returnees is guard De'Jour Young. Young started in all 29 games last season for head coach Niecee Nelson's team and averaged a team-high marks in both points (12.2 ppg) and rebounds (5.4 rpg).
