MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. -
Katie Kasubke’s two-run home run highlighted a three-run first inning as Loyola University Chicago knocked off Brown, 5-2, this morning at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational. The win keeps the Ramblers perfect on the season as they improve to 6-0, while the Bears dropped their season opener.
Shannon McGee reached base in the first when she was hit by a pitch, setting the table for Kasubke’s two-run blast that put Loyola ahead for good. Brooke Wilson, in her return to the lineup after missing three games due to injury, laced a base hit to right center to plate Alyssa Mannucci who had walked, to cap a three-run first inning for the Ramblers.
Brown was able to cut the Loyola lead down to a single run with a pair of tallies in the top of the fourth, but the Ramblers answered right back on Jordyn Cordell’s RBI groundout that scored Wilson, who had led off with a double.
Erica Nagel ripped a RBI single in the sixth to give Loyola another insurance run as it held on for the victory.
Loyola will face Georgetown at 12:30 p.m. Central.
