CHICAGO (January 18, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago stays on the road this coming weekend to close out a three-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing.  The Ramblers will visit Carbondale, Ill. on Friday evening for a 6 p.m. tilt with Southern Illinois as part of the "Battle for Illinois" rivalry series, before trekking west to Springfield, Mo. to take on Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
 
Attack Dogs
  • Following a road split last weekend, Southern Illinois sitting at 9-8 overall and 4-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
  • The Salukis surrendered a double-digit second-half lead as they ultimately fell to host Illinois State, 49-46, last Sunday at Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill. Nicole Martin came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points in the loss.
  • Preseason All-MVC selection Kylie Giebelhausen is averaging a team-high 11.5 points per game for head coach Cindy Stein's team.  Martin (10.8 ppg), Abby Brockmeyer (10.7 ppg) and Makenzie Silvey (10.0 ppg) also all average in double figures in scoring.
 
Don't Sleep On These Bears
  • Missouri State, which hosts Valparaiso on Friday evening at JQH Arena, has picked up victories in each of its last three games to move back above the .500 mark on the year at 9-8.  The Lady Bears sport a 5-1 MVC mark that has them only a game behind Drake for the top spot in the Valley standings.
  • Paced by a career-best 16 points from Brice Calip, Missouri State picked up a 71-65 victory over Bradley last Sunday at Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria, Ill. Calip's performance saw her named the MVC Newcomer of the Week on Monday afternoon.
  • Liza Fruendt, who was tabbed as the MVC's Preseason Player of the Year back in October, leads the attack for head coach Kellie Harper, averaging a team-high 15.1 points per game that ranks fifth overall in the Valley. Alexa Williard also sits in the top 10 on the conference scoring chart, checking in at seventh at 11.7 ppg.
