Brewis, Ramblers Finish Regular Season Strong At Bradley Pink Classic

Redshirt senior leads all Valley competitors in women’s 6k red race

Bradley Pink Classic Final Results

PEORIA, Ill. (October 12, 2018) –
For the third time in as many events, redshirt senior Lindsey Brewis led the charge as the Loyola University Chicago cross country teams wrapped up regular-season action at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. this afternoon.

Loyola came in 11th overall with 355 points in the final women's red race team standings.  The Ramblers were second amongst Missouri Valley Conference competitors, finishing just 39 points back of Bradley (8th, 316).  In the men's red race, the Maroon & Gold checked in with 476 points to land 18th

Brewis, fresh off earning MVC Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors following her showing at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational back on September 29, was the top Valley finisher in the women's 6k red race.  Out of Dearborn, Mich., Brewis checked in at 20:45.8 to finish fifth overall.

Sophomore Mimi Reimers and freshman Claire Hengesbaugh were separated by less than nine seconds.  Reimers posted a time of 21:40.9 to come in 41st, while Hengesbaugh claimed 51st at 21:49.4.  Junior Rita Maurais and freshman Anya Brett rounded out the Ramblers' top five, placing 123rd (22:25.3) and 143rd (22:35.3), respectively.

"I thought the girls ran a solid race today," Loyola assistant coach Alan Peterson commented.  "They've been able to work on a few things throughout every race and we're almost where we need to be heading into championship season.  We're in a good position heading into the MVC Championship in two weeks."

In the men's 8k red race, junior Derek Rink came across first for the Maroon & Gold for the third time in four events.  The Appleton, Wis. product turned in a time of 25:46.5 that was good enough to put him in 75th on the final leaderboard.  Senior Kevin White crossed the finish line 11 seconds back of Rink, finishing 90th at 25:57.4.

A pair of freshmen occupied the three and four spots in the Loyola top five.  Stephen Pipilas came through in 26:02.8 to take 101st, with Nick Chudzik crossing six seconds later in 113th at 26:08.8.  Sophomore Kenny Wallace finished 130th in 26:15.6.

In the men's open 8k race, sophomore Miles Kanipe (11th, 26:00.9) and junior Max O'Meara (15th, 26:12.2) earned spots in the top 15.

Loyola will now turn its attention towards the postseason.  The Ramblers return to Peoria, Ill. on October 27 for the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship.
