PEORIA, Ill. (October 12, 2018)

In Short
Quinn Spieker totaled 15 kills and Heather Kocken pitched in 10, but a balanced Bradley (15-4, 5-2 MVC) attack that featured four players with 10 or more kills powered the host Braves to a 25-21, 21-25, 26-24, 25-12 victory over Loyola University Chicago (11-8, 3-4 MVC) tonight at Renaissance Coliseum. The loss is the Ramblers' fourth straight on the heels of a three-match winning streak to open Missouri Valley Conference play.

How It Happened
The Ramblers fell behind by four points early before gathering itself and stringing together an 8-3 run that wiped out the deficit and put them ahead, 16-15. Bradley would answer back and even the set and then used three unanswered tallies to take control of the match and seize a 21-18 lead. The Braves' edge grew to as many as five (24-19) before kills from Spieker and Kocken trimmed the gap to 24-21, but a Loyola hitting error capped Bradley's 25-21 victory.

A game-changing 7-1 run that opened up with four straight points, and included a kill and an ace from Elle Van Grinsven, allowed Loyola to erase a two-point deficit and claim a 22-18 lead on its way to a 25-21 victory. After hitting just .086 (11-8-35) in the opening set, the Ramblers bounced back in a big way, connecting at a .382 (16-3-34) clip in their set-two win.

Loyola climbed its way out of a four-point hole once again in set three, using a 7-3 spurt to tie the score at 22. The teams then exchanged points before Van Grinsven turned back a Braves attack attempt to give the Ramblers a short-lived 24-23 edge. However, back-to-back kills from Sara Maddox and Alissa Schovanec preceded a Loyola hitting error that gave Bradley a 2-1 lead in the match thanks to a 26-24 victory.

Bradley hit a whopping .424 (16-2-33) in the fourth set and sealed the outcome with a 13-3 run that opened with four consecutive scores in a 25-12 decision. Loyola was unable to get on track offensively in set four, hitting just .061 (8-6-33).

A Look At The Numbers
  • Spieker led the Ramblers with 15 kills, running her streak of consecutive double-digit kill efforts to six, while also contributing 11 digs.
  • Kocken pitched in 10 kills, hitting .391 (10-1-23), and Delilah Wolf recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 38 assists and 11 digs.
  • Maddox and Hannah Thompson paced the Bradley offense with 12 kills apiece.
