PEORIA, Ill. (October 27, 2018) – Redshirt senior
Lindsey Brewis cruised to her second-straight Missouri Valley Conference title as the Loyola University Chicago cross country teams competed at the MVC Cross Country Championship today in Peoria, Ill.
Led by Brewis' performance, Loyola's women's side came in second overall in the team race, its highest finish since joining The Valley, with 75 points. The Rambler men checked in with 153 points to claim eighth.
Brewis and the rest of the field battled cool and overcast conditions this morning at the Newman Golf Course. The Dearborn, Mich. product shaved eight seconds off of her previous cross country personal best as she rolled to victory in the women's 5k race with a time of 16:57.08. Brewis, who was named the 2018 MVC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, is The Valley's first back-to-back champion since Caitlin Busch of Bradley (2014-15).

Claire Hengesbaugh and sophomore
Mimi Reimers joined Brewis in the top 10. Hengesbaugh continued a breakout rookie campaign with a run of 17:29.69 to finish sixth, while Reimers came in just a spot back in seventh at 17:33.01. Both members of the duo joined Brewis as First Team All-MVC selections, giving the Ramblers three First Team All-Valley honorees for the first time in program history. Junior

th, 18:35.6) rounded out the top five for the Maroon & Gold.
"The girls executed great race plans today," Loyola assistant coach
Alan Peterson commented. "We knew going into this weekend that every point was going to matter and they competed extremely well. Lindsey winning and defending her championship was a great last MVC cross country race for her. Claire and Mimi came through with amazing races as well to help the team. Getting second is our highest finish since joining the conference and we're excited about the direction this program is headed."
Redshirt junior
Kevin White was the first Rambler across the finish line in the men's 8k race. Out of Wooster, Ohio, White missed out on an 8k season-best by just four seconds, posting a time of 25:17.79 to come in 25
th.
A pair of freshman occupied the two and three spots for Loyola, both recording season-best marks.
Stephen Pipilas finished 31
st at 25:42.74, while
Akhil Ghosh was less than two seconds back in 32
nd with a time of 25:44.14. Junior
Riley DeMeulenaere turned in a season-best effort of his own, coming through in 25:45.73 to finish 33

Loyola continues the postseason on Friday, November 9 when it returns to Peoria, Ill. for the NCAA Midwest Regional.
