Lindsey Brewis closed out her cross country career in historic fashion today at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis.
"Lindsey represents everything it means to be a Rambler," Loyola head coach
Bob Thurnhoffer commented. "I couldn't be more proud of what she accomplished this season. She earned all of it. Her hard work, dedication, focus, leadership, humility, and determination led her to the best women's cross country season in Loyola history."
Brewis, battling cold and snowy conditions at the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, posted a time of 20:44.9 to take 56
th overall in the field of 255 runners. Only the second female in program history to grace the national stage, Brewis' finish bests former Rambler Gina Valgoi, who took 104
th at the 2012 edition of the meet.
"Lindsey came into this race with a great mindset," Loyola assistant coach
Alan Peterson said. "Many people would be satisfied with just making it to the national meet, but she wanted to compete with the best and show what she could do. To have her best race of the season and finish just outside of being an All-American was a fitting end to a remarkable cross country career."
Today's showing caps off a fantastic cross country career for Brewis. The Dearborn, Mich. native has earned Missouri Valley Conference Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year accolades in each of the past two seasons and is a two-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region honoree.
Brewis and the Ramblers will now turn their attention towards the indoor track & field season, which begins on Friday, December 7 at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich.
