Loyola’s Williamson Sidelined With Broken Hand

Sophomore guard is averaging 8.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 2.9 apg

CHICAGO (November 28, 2018) – Defensive stalwart Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), a sophomore guard at Loyola University Chicago, will be sidelined until January after breaking his hand in last night's game versus No. 5 Nevada. The 6-foot-4 Williamson, a lockdown defender, was averaging 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game through seven games, all starts, this season.

Last season, guard Ben Richardson broke his hand in Loyola's victory at UMKC in mid-November, allowing Williamson to earn more minutes and experience. The Chicago native took that opportunity and ran with it, scoring in double figures three times during Richardson's absence and Williamson wound up being a major contributor off the bench during the Ramblers' run to the NCAA Final Four.

"This is a tough blow for Lucas and for the team, but is a great opportunity for someone to step up like Lucas himself did last year when Ben was injured," head coach Porter Moser said.

Loyola is back in action Saturday (Dec. 1) when it makes the short trip across town to take on UIC at 3 p.m.
