Ramblers hold Lions to .111 hitting in sweep

Box Score

In Short…

No. 6 Loyola University Chicago extended its winning streak to seven games this evening as picked up a 25-20, 29-27, 25-17 victory over visiting Lindenwood at Gentile Arena.  The Ramblers improve to 9-2 overall (2-0 MIVA) with the win, while the Lions slip to 6-5 (1-3 MIVA).

How It Happened
Consecutive Lindenwood hitting errors helped give Loyola an early 7-4 lead in the opening set.  Following a block that trimmed the Rambler lead to just one, 12-11, a kill by Collin Mahan sparked a 6-1 run for the Maroon & Gold as Loyola took control en route to closing out a 25-20 victory.

Garrett Zolg's first service ace of the evening staked the Ramblers to a 4-1 edge in the second set.  Lindenwood would roar back to take a 12-11 lead on a Nathan Van Dellen ace before Loyola used a 5-0 spurt that was punctuated by a Lions' attack error to open up a 16-12 advantage.  The visitors refused to go away as they battled all the way back to pull even at 25-25.  Loyola fought off a set point at 26-25 as it ultimately reclaimed the lead for good on a Jeff Jendryk kill ahead of a Lindenwood hitting error that sealed a 29-27 win.

Loyola ripped off four unanswered points, the last of which came on a Ricky Gevis kill, to quickly jump out to a 7-3 lead in set three.  Back-to-back kills from Jendryk and Paul Narup, respectively, saw the margin balloon to 13-7 and prompted a Lindenwood timeout.  The Lions would get no closer than five the rest of the way as the Ramblers coasted to a 25-17 triumph to close the night.
