Collin Mahan Named MIVA Offensive Player Of The Week

Junior outside hitter hit .475 with 3.89 kills per set in two matches

CHICAGO (February 20, 2018) – Collin Mahan (Victor, N.Y./Victor) has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week it was announced this morning by the league office. The 6-foot-5 junior outside hitter on the Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team continued his excellent play this season by averaging 3.89 kills, 0.44 service aces and 1.00 digs per set, while hitting .475 (35-6-61) in a pair of matches last weekend for the Ramblers, who are ranked No. 8 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II Poll.
 
Off to a tremendous start to his junior campaign, Mahan has reached double-digit kills in all 13 matches this season and in 14 straight contests dating back to last year. In a thrilling five-set victory at No. 14 Fort Wayne on February 16, the outside hitter drilled 18 kills, hitting .516 (18-2-31) for the match, while adding four aces, four digs and a block, as Loyola ran its winning streak to eight matches.
 
He followed that performance with a 17-kill, five-dig effort in a four-set loss at Ball State the following evening.
 
For the season, Mahan is averaging 3.51 kills, 1.33 digs, 0.33 aces and 0.37 blocks per set, and is hitting at a .316 efficiency. Loyola is 10-3 overall and 3-1 in MIVA play and opens a five-match homestand on February 23 when it hosts McKendree
