CHICAGO (February 3, 2018)

In Short
Four players tallied 10 or more kills to lead No. 7 Loyola University Chicago (7-2) to its fifth straight win with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 31-29 victory over No. 13 USC (3-7) tonight at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers have now collected five wins over nationally ranked opponents this season.

How It Happened
Loyola fell behind by five three times in the first set before storming back with five unanswered points to knot the score at 12. From there, the set was a see-saw battle with neither team leading more than two points until USC tallied three straight points off Loyola errors to grab a 23-20 lead it would never relinquish on the way to a 25-20 victory.

The Ramblers fell behind by as many as three points in set two, but once again mounted a comeback to get back into the contest. Loyola used a 7-2 run, capped by a Collin Mahan service ace, to erase a three-point deficit and claim a 16-14 lead. The Trojans roared back and tied things at 17, before a service errors put the Ramblers ahead to stay, and Loyola closed out the set on Will Tischler's kill for a 25-21 decision.

Loyola separated itself in set three thanks to a decisive 10-2 spurt that turned a two-point lead into a comfortable 18-8 advantage as it cruised to a 25-14 victory.

With USC holding a 24-22 lead in the fourth set, Loyola charged back, cutting the deficit in half on a Paul Narup kill before a USC error knotted the score at 24. Back and forth the teams went until a kill from Jeff Jendryk gave the Ramblers the lead for good, at 30-29, and the Trojans hit one long to provide match point as Loyola completed the come-from-behind victory.
