In Short
Amber Atkinson's two-run triple in the third inning gave South Florida (16-12) the lead for good en route to a 6-3 victory over Loyola University Chicago (11-9) this afternoon at the USF Tournament.
How It Happened
The Ramblers dented the scoreboard first, hanging a run on the board in the third inning on
Katie Kasubke's two-out, RBI single to left field that sent
Shannon McGee, who had reached on a fielder's choice, around to score.
Loyola's lead wouldn't hold up for long however, as the Bulls stole momentum away on Atkinson's two-run triple in the bottom of the third inning, and USF would add three more runs in the fourth, in the process chasing Rambler starter
Keenan Dolezal from the game.
The Ramblers fought back and cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning when Kasubke sparked a rally with a lead-off single up the middle. One out later,
Brooke Wilson poked a single to right, with Kasubke scampering home on an error by Astin Donovan. Later in the inning,
Peyton DeChant smacked a two-out base hit to right to score Wilson, bringing the Ramblers within a pair of runs, at 5-3.
Yet again, however, Loyola allowed USF to reclaim momentum in its very next at bat as the Bulls plated an insurance run on Lindsey Devitt's RBI single and the Ramblers were unable to muster a threat in the seventh inning as their four-game winning streak grinded to a halt.
A Look At The Numbers
- Loyola's offense produced eight hits against three USF pitchers, with seven players tallying at least one hit, led by Kasubke's two-hit performance.
- Devitt went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead the Bulls.
