MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (March 2, 2018) –
Â
In Short
Emma Schweigert's solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted La Salle to a 3-2 victory over Loyola University Chicago (5-5) Friday morning at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational. The loss is the Ramblers' third in the last four games.
Â
How It Happened
Emily Borg's one-out double in the top of the second inning knocked in a pair of runs to give Loyola and starting pitcher
Kiley Jones an early 2-0 cushion. That lead would not hold up very long however, as the Explorers drew even in the bottom of the frame on Emily Conaway's double that plated a pair of runs.
Â
The game would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth when Schweigert launched a Jones offering over the fence to put La Salle ahead to stay.
Â
Loyola tried to mount a rally in its last turn at bat, but
Katie Kasubke's two-out single went for naught as the Explorers stranded the tying run on base to earn the victory.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Jordyn Cordell tallied two of Loyola's eight hits on the day, while Borg knocked in a pair of runs.
- Jones was solid in the circle, scattering five hits and striking out three in a complete-game effort.
