PEORIA, Ill. (March 23, 2018) -Â
In Short…
Loyola University Chicago (14-12, 2-3 MVC) nearly erased a five-run deficit but saw its comeback come up just short as it dropped a 5-4 decision to Bradley (13-15, 2-2 MVC) in the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, Ill.
Â
How It Happened
Following a scoreless top half of the first, Stacia Seeton laced a double down the left field line to plate a pair of runs, giving Bradley a 2-0 lead. Katie Habryle added on a two-run shot to extend the margin to 4-0 at the end of the first inning.Â
Â
After a double by Taise Thompson upped the Braves' advantage to 5-0 in the bottom of the third, Loyola began to chip away. A
Shannon McGee single brought home
Caitlin Engelking in the top of the fifth, trimming the deficit to 5-1.Â
Jamie O'Brien doubled in
Allyson Ivey in the following inning to pull Loyola to within 5-2.Â
Â
Down to its final out, Loyola mounted a rally in the top of the seventh. A throwing error on a Jordan Cordell single sent McGee racing home, cutting the Bradley lead to 5-3.Â
Katie Kasubke added a double to bring around McGee but that would prove to be the end of the Ramblers' comeback attempt as Bradley held on for a 5-4 victory to salvage a split in the doubleheader.Â
Â
Looking At The Numbers
- McGee (2-for-4) and Ivey (2-for-3) both registered two-hit games to lead the Rambler attack.
-
Madison Veres threw 5.2 innings in relief and allowed only three hits and one earned run while striking out three.
