Game Recap: Softball |

Jones, Loyola Shut Down UIC, 1-0

Junior surrenders five hits in complete game shutout

In Short…
Kiley Jones posted her fourth shutout of the season and Allyson Ivey added the game's deciding hit as Loyola University Chicago (15-12, 2-3 MVC) picked up a 1-0 victory over UIC (13-13, 2-1 Horizon) this afternoon at Loyola Softball Park.

How It Happened
Jones and UIC pitcher Allie Trudeau dominated early, with both offenses struggling to muster an attack.  The Flames mounted the game's first threat in the top of the third, putting a pair of runners on, but Jones came up with a key strikeout to retire the side.

Loyola broke through with what would prove to be the day's deciding run in the bottom of the third.  A leadoff double by Shannon McGee set the table for Ivey, who ripped a single back up the middle to stake the Ramblers to a 1-0 lead.  UIC looked to respond quickly in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with two away, but Jones slammed the door shut with another strikeout to preserve the lead.

The Loyola right-hander danced out of trouble in the fifth ahead of a clean top of the sixth as the Maroon & Gold continued to hang on.  With two runners on and UIC down to its last out, Jones induced a groundout as Jamie O'Brien came up with a diving stop to complete a five-hit shutout.

Looking At The Numbers
- Jones, who struck out five, picked up her 12th victory and fourth complete game of the season today.  She sits just seven wins shy of her total from all of 2017.
- Ivey knocked in her 14th run of the season, a mark that is currently tied for second on the Loyola roster.
- Katie Polaski recorded her third multi-hit game of the year, finishing 2-of-3 at the plate.
