In Short…
Kiley Jones allowed only two hits as part of a complete game shutout to propel Loyola University Chicago (16-13, 3-4 MVC) past Evansville (10-19, 3-4 MVC) in the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon at Loyola Softball Park.
Â
How It Happened
Jones worked around a one-out single to keep Evansville quiet in the top half of the first.Â
Katie Kasubke gave the Maroon & Gold a lead that it would not relinquish with two gone in the bottom half of the opening frame when she connected on a solo home run to left center to put Loyola on top, 1-0.
Â
Jones retired 11 straight Purple Aces at one point before allowing a leadoff double to McKenzie Johnson in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third with only one out, Jones notched a key strikeout before inducing a groundout to third to quell the Evansville threat.
Â
Shannon McGee, who entered the game a team-high .433 batting average, provided Loyola with some breathing room in the bottom of the fifth, driving a home run over the right field fence to double the lead, 2-0. Jones would cruise from there, striking out a pair over the final two innings to close out an impressive victory. Â
Â
Looking At The Numbers
- Jones struck out four over seven innings of work today, allowing only two hits, en route to her 13
th victory of the season.
- Kasubke and McGee each finished 2-for-3 with a home run.
