In Short…
Visiting Evansville (10-18, 3-3 MVC) used a pair of two-run innings to fight past Loyola University Chicago (15-13, 2-4 MVC) by a final count of 4-3 this afternoon in the opening game of a doubleheader at Loyola Softball Park.
How It Happened
Both teams struggled to muster anything in the way of offense early on. Loyola cashed in off of a leadoff walk by
Emily Borg in the bottom of the third inning as it went on to load the bases before
Katie Kasubke drew a base on balls to put the Ramblers in front, 1-0.
Evansville would answer back in the top of the fourth when Morgan Florey doubled to right to bring home a pair of runners as the visitors took a 2-1 edge. Brittany Hay added another crooked number an inning later when she belted a two-run shot to straight away center, bringing the margin to 4-1.
After trimming the deficit to 4-2 on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth, Loyola looked to mount a rally in the seventh. A leadoff walk by
Ashley Parenti set the table for a two-out base hit from
Jordyn Cordell that plated Parenti and made it 4-3. Kasubke followed that up with a single to put runners on the corners but Florey would record a key strikeout in the ensuing at-bat as Evansville held on for a 4-3 win.
Looking At The Numbers
- Cordell and Kasubke each finished with a hit and a run batted in for the Ramblers.
-
