NOTRE DAME, Ind. (April 11, 2018)
In Short
MK Bonamy's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth scored Abby Sweet to lift Notre Dame (27-13) to a 1-0 victory over Loyola University Chicago (17-17) tonight in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Melissa Cook Stadium.
How It Happened
Loyola starter
Kiley Jones wiggled out of tough spots in the first inning and again in the fourth, stranding a pair of Notre Dame baserunners each time to keep the game scoreless. The Ramblers had a great scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth when
Allyson Ivey walked and
Jamie O'Brien followed with a base hit to give Loyola runners at first and second with two outs, but Notre Dame starter Katie Beriont worked out of the jam, getting
Brooke Wilson to line out to short as the game stayed deadlocked.
Loyola loaded the bags in the top of the sixth on base hits by
Katie Kasubke and Wilson and a walk to Ivey, but once again Beriont escaped harm without surrendering a run.
The Fighting Irish put together a rally in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring an unearned run on Bonamy's sacrifice fly for the game's lone run.
A Look At The Numbers
- Jones suffered a hard-luck loss, yielding no earned run and three hits, while fanning four, for Loyola.
- The Ramblers managed five hits off Beriont.
