CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (April 14, 2018)
In Short
Allyson Ivey and
Katie Kasubke hit home runs and
Keenan Dolezal pitched a shutout to propel Loyola University Chicago (18-18, 4-8 MVC) to a 5-0 victory over host UNI (21-17, 6-6 MVC) this afternoon in the nightcap of a twin bill at UNI Dome.
How It Happened
Loyola's offense, which had been mired in a slump and held scoreless in four of the last five games, broke out in a big way in the first inning, jumping all over UNI starter Emma Olejniczak for four runs and a lead that allowed Dolezal some breathing room.
The Ramblers got their first-inning rally cooking thanks to consecutive one-out singles from
Katie Polaski, Kasubke and
Jordyn Cordell before Ivey crushed a 3-2 offering from Olejniczak over the fence in right center for her first career grand slam.
Dolezal danced her way around some trouble throughout the game but managed to keep UNI off the scoreboard. She was masterful at working out of tough spots all afternoon, scattering nine hits and striking out two Panthers to collect her first shutout since March 9 versus Seton Hall.
Kasubke padded the Ramblers' lead in the fifth when she mashed a solo homer, her team-leading fourth of the year, over the left field wall to increase the advantage to 5-0.
A Look At The Numbers
- Loyola's offense tallied 11 hits on the day, with Cordell going 3-for-4 to lead a trio of multi-hit performances.
- Kasubke and Polaski also recorded two hits each.
- Ivey's grand slam was the first of her career and was just her second collegiate roundtripper and first since March 4.
