Kiley Jones (Valparaiso, Ind./Portage) was one of 13 individuals named to the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete First Team it was announced today. The righthander was one of three Ramblers to earn MVC Scholar-Athlete distinction, with
Shannon McGee (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) and
Brooke Wilson (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) collecting honorable mention accolades.
Jones, who carries a 3.49 grade-point average as a social work major, had another impressive season in 2018, posting a 17-12 record with a 1.86 earned-run average and 107 strikeouts in 188.0 innings of work. The Second Team All-MVC selection completed 24 of her 30 starts this season, blanking the opposition on seven occasions. Since the start of the 2017 campaign she has been the winning pitcher in 36 of Loyola's 50 victories.
Earning MVC Scholar-Athlete Team Honorable Mention status for the first time in their careers were McGee and Wilson. A sophomore outfielder and business major, McGee, who last week was named First Team All-MVC, batted .377 (60-for-159) with 10 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 21 RBI this season. Wilson, a junior outfielder, had her best offensive season as a Rambler, hitting .268 (40-for-149) with five doubles, three triples, a home run and a career-best 19 RBI. The psychology major was named Google Cloud Academic All-District V last week.
In order to be eligible for MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher, be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, and meet certain playing requirements.
