CHICAGO (September 28, 2018) – The Loyola Ramblers men's soccer team gets back to Missouri Valley Conference play with a road matchup against the 5-2-1 Bradley Braves. The 7 p.m. contest is the Ramblers' first of three away conference matches in the regular season.
Â
Last Time Out:Â The Maroon and Gold look to regroup after dropping a 2-1 road match at UIC (Sept. 25) in regulation, ending their three-match unbeaten streak. The Ramblers' goal was scored by
Grant Stoneman to increase his team-leading total three, as well as his team-leading point total to six. Thanks to his two tallies in his last three outings, the St. Charles, Ill. native is now in a three-way tie for the fifth most goals this season among MVC players. Stoneman's most recent goal at UIC was assisted by
Fabian Lifka, who now has two helpers on the year.
A Look at Bradley: The Bradley Braves, picked to finish fourth in the MVC, have had a week off from game action and will also be looking to avenge a loss in their most recent outing – a 3-0 road defeat to Central Arkansas to snap a 12-match unbeaten streak. Despite their recent setback, the Braves enter Saturday 5-2-1 and have enjoyed the offensive production from Gerit Wintermeyer. The Germany native has found the back of the net four times to rank fourth in the conference, and has logged 30 shots to check in at second in that department. Albert Reinwart has gotten the bulk of the playing time for the Braves in goal, and has posted two shutouts and has held opponents to a 1.05 goals against average.
Â
Series Stuff:Â Loyola and Bradley's series history dates back to the Ramblers' inaugural season in 1981, with the Braves holding a 15-7-0 edge. The teams split the season series last year, with the Ramblers' win coming at home in 2-1 fashion. Both
Aidan Megally and
Grant Stoneman found the back of the net in the victory, and
Liam Woehrle assisted on Stoneman's game winner. The teams played regularly before Loyola's move to the MVC, with some notable non-conference highlights featuring a 3-0 win back in 2008 and the first overtime match in the series in 1989 – a 1-0 Loyola win.
Â
Up Next:Â Following the Bradley match, the Maroon and Gold have the following week off of game competition to prepare for Valparaiso the following Saturday (Oct. 6). The 7 p.m. contest will be the final road match before the Ramblers open a four-match homestand. Â
