CHICAGO (September 6, 2018) – The marquee-matchup against Northwestern is the next match on the Loyola men's soccer team's schedule. This is the earliest in the season the two foes have squared off since 2001 when Loyola played them to open the season on Aug. 31. The Ramblers have won the last two home contests dating back to 2014.
Â
Last Time Out: Despite posting more shots, the Ramblers suffered a 6-1 setback at the hands of the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Sept. 2. RS-senior
Grant Stoneman notched the goal for the Ramblers with a header off a corner kick from fellow captain
Marius Kullmann. Stoneman also tallied two shots on goal to tie his single-match career high, a mark he reached last year in a win vs. Bradley (Oct. 21).

A Look at Northwestern: Northwestern, picked to finish eighth in the Big Ten, enters Friday with a 2-1-1 record with its most recent match ending in a loss at the hands of No. 15 Fordham on Sept. 3. The Wildcats have done a good job balancing the offensive production by having three players with at least three points – led by Bardia Kimiavi with four (2g, 0a). Miha Miskovic has played every minute at goalkeeper for Northwestern this season and possesses a 0.70 goals against average through his four starts between the pipes. As a team, the Wildcats have been out-shot 71-29 through four games, ultimately making Miskovic's strong play extra vital for his team. Three players represented the 'Cats on the preseason honors list: midfielder Camden Buescher, midfielder Tommy Katsiyiannis and defender Garrett Opperman.
Hustle to Hoyne: Friday's match against Northwestern is the annual 'Hustle to Hoyne' event put on by the men's soccer program. The festivities begin with a 5:30 p.m. rally at St. Ignatius Plaza that features a giveaway of t-shirts to the first 500 students in attendance. After head coach
Neil Jones speaks to the crowd, the march to Loyola Soccer Park begins at approximately 6 p.m. in preparation for the 7 p.m. first kick. You can also tune into the Loyola Ramblers Instagram page (@loyolaramblers) on game day when RS-junior
Jimmy Keefe will be running the page's story.
After This: Loyola will have a seven-day layoff in between matches after the Northwestern contest. The Ramblers take on SIUE on the road on Saturday, Sept. 15, for their second road match of the regular season. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
