CHICAGO (January 22, 2019) - Senior outside hitter
Collin Mahan (Victor, N.Y.) was honored with the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week award, announced by the conference on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The award marks the third time Mahan has won the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award, and the fifth time he's earned a weekly award from the MIVA.
Mahan registered a total of 28 kills (3.50 per set) over the course of Loyola's two victories. He tallied 18 in the Ramblers' 3-2 win over No. 5 Pepperdine on Jan. 18. His efficient .309 hitting (28-7-68) led the way for his team in that stretch. Mahan also added four service aces, two in each weekend match, to run his season total to 12 – all of which have happened in the last 14 sets played.
After a 2-0 weekend highlighted by defeating No. 5 Pepperdine, Loyola checked in at No. 5 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, marking the first time since Feb. 8, 2016 the team has cracked the Top-5. The team travels to the West Coast to take on No. 11 CSUN (Jan. 25) and No. 10 UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 26) for its next slate of opponents.
