CHICAGO (October 10, 2019 ) – After more than two weeks away from Loyola Soccer Park, the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team will return home to host Valparaiso on Saturday, October 12 for Alumni Night. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: Loyola breezed by Northwestern on the road Wednesday night, claiming a 2-0 victory. For the second match in a row,
Aidan Megally tallied two goals for Loyola. The senior almost had a hat trick, sending a rocket to the goal in the 87
th minute that was saved by Northwestern goalkeeper Robbie White. Freshman
Alex Moskal also tallied his first career assist on Megally's second goal.
vs. Valparaiso: Valpo is looking to recover from a 3-0 loss to SIU-Edwardsville on October 5. The Crusaders, (2-7-1 overall, 1-3-0 MVC) are currently on a three-match losing streak, but have a strong presence in goal from Edvin Holst. The freshman goalkeeper is ranked 14
th nationally in saves per game with 5.29 and leads the MVC in saves and saves per game. Four Crusaders have registered multiple goals this season for the first time since 2016. Finding the back of the net for Valpo are Cole Rainwater (three), Mason Marcey (three), Michael Cushing (two) and Ryan Madondo (two). Head coach Mike Avery is in his 13
th season with Valpo, and owns a program-record 89 career victories. Valpo was named sixth in the MVC Preseason Poll following a 5-8-4 (2-1-3 MVC) record in 2018.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Valpo will meet for the 27
th time on Saturday in Rogers Park. The Ramblers hold an edge on Valpo, 15-5-8 but have only won two of the last 10 meetings, with the last being in 2016. The teams have tied in five of their last eight meetings, including in 2018.
