CHICAGO (October 21, 2019) - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team will face Bradley for the second time this season after previously playing to a 0-0 draw. The Ramblers, 8-3-1, (3-1-1 MVC) are currently on a four match win streak and will travel to Peoria on Wednesday to take on the Braves at 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
Last Time Out: Loyola completed its Chicago sweep with a 3-1 victory over UIC last Tuesday. This was the second time in program history that Loyola defeated all three of its local rivals including Northwestern and DePaul, joining the 2015 season. It was a defensive battle for both teams as they combined for just 13 shots. The Ramblers shut down UIC, only allowing them two shots on goal. The Flames entered the match leading the nation in shots per game and fifth in scoring offense.
Aidan Megally,
Billy Hency and
Fabian Becerra each netted a goal in the win, while Hency and
Justin Sukow each added an assist. Megally's goal was his eighth of the season which is tied for the most in the Missouri Valley Conference.
vs. Bradley: Bradley (4-5-3, 3-3-1) fell to No. 14 Missouri State, 2-1 on Saturday night. Jha'Lon Johnson notched a penalty kick goal in the 26th minute to give the Braves the lead, but Missouri State was able to find the equalizer and then later score in the 81st minute to win the match. The Braves also defeated Evansville, 1-0 on Oct. 13 and only allowed the Purple Aces to direct one of its shots on goal. Bradley has limited three opponents to fewer than three shots on goal and hasn't allowed any of its first 11 opponents more than six shots on goal. Junior Gerit Wintermeyer leads the Braves with four goals and one assist this season after scoring the game-winning goal against Evansville. The Braves were chosen third in the 2019 MVC Preseason Poll following a 8-5-4 campaign last season under head coach Jim DeRose, who was been at the helm for the Braves for 24 seasons.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Bradley will meet for the 25th time after their last meeting at Loyola Soccer Park on Sept. 25 which finished in a 0-0 draw. The Braves lead the all-time series, 15-8-1, but Loyola has won three of the last five meetings. The Ramblers last defeated the Braves, 2-1 in 2018.
