Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Loyola And Drake Play to 3-3 Draw on Senior Day

The Ramblers move to 8-3-3, (3-1-3 MVC).

In Short
The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team played in a high-intensity overtime match against Drake on Sunday afternoon, finishing in a 3-3 tie. The Ramblers scored three goals in seven minutes to take a 3-2 lead in the 84th minute, but Drake responded with the equalizer and neither team found back of the net in overtime. Loyola moves to 8-3-3, (3-1-3 MVC) while Drake shifts to 7-7-1, (4-4-1 MVC).

Coach Neil Jones Thoughts
"We give Drake a lot of credit," Jones said. "They got those two early goals and put us under a lot of pressure. I'm really proud of how the guys responded and fought back. Unbelievable determination to not allow the other team to win the game and to fight back. We said at halftime that we'd never give up and fight. We had the lead there for a short while and we're disappointed to not hold onto the win, but, a point is not a bad result."

How It Happened
Drake pulled ahead early in the first half, moving to 2-0 headed into halftime. The first goal in the 20th minute was from Leroy Engzusi, who sprinted down the left side and was able to collect a long pass from Bradan Allen and send the ball to the far post.

With just minutes to go in the first half, Drake's Austin Smythe went one-on-one with Marcel Kampman, who made a diving save. Smythe was able to snag the rebound and pass the ball to Engzusi, whose shot was blocked by a Loyola defender. Smythe then took advantage of another shot opportunity but was denied by Kampman a second time. He then regained the rebound for a third time and was able to score.

The Ramblers attacked in the second half, starting with a goal from Billy Hency in the 77th minute. Aidan Megally passed to Hency who dribbled around Drake's defense and fired a shot to the far post that deflected off a Drake defender and into the net. Just two minutes later, Justin Sukow notched the equalizer for Loyola. Hency took advantage of an opportunity that was saved by Drake goalkeeper Luke Anderson, but it bounced out of his arms. Fabian Becerra got a touch on the ball and flicked it back out to Sukow who ran up for a rebound inside the box. Anderson was still on the ground and the defense couldn't get there quick enough, allowing Sukow to send his shot straight into the net.

An earned penalty kick for Loyola in the 84th minute gave Megally his ninth goal of the season and the 3-2 lead for the Ramblers. But Drake would capture the equalizer minutes later. Smythe was in the right place at the right time to snag the ball and score after Kampman left the goal to head it away. Loyola took six shot attempts in both overtime periods including three on target, but would finish in its second consecutive draw.

A Look At The Numbers
- Megally tallied his ninth goal of the season, which is tied for first in the Missouri Valley Conference with Missouri State's Matthew Bentley.
- Sukow collected his fifth goal, while Billy Hency notched his fourth.
- The Ramblers out-shot Drake, 24-15 and won the corner kick battle, 10-4.
- Marcel Kampman registered four saves.
- Loyola put up 12 shots on target and Drake goalkeeper Luke Anderson recorded nine saves.
