Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Goal Gives Ramblers Edge Over Evansville, 1-0

Loyola moves to 9-3-3, (4-1-3 MVC) this season

In Short
An early goal secured the win for the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team tonight as they defeated Evansville, 1-0 at Loyola Soccer Park. The Ramblers move to 9-3-3, (4-1-3 MVC) while the Purple Aces drop to 2-12-1, (0-8 MVC).

Coach Neil Jones Thoughts
"Much needed three points in Valley play, we've had a couple of tough ties in a row, Jones said. "We needed to get three tonight. Credit to Evansville they came here and absolutely battled and gave us a tough match in tough conditions, but we really grinded tonight. We defended very, very well and we got the goal. We did enough to get the win tonight, so we're happy with the three points. We've got two tough road games to end out the conference so we had to end on home court and finish up with a win here. Now we go on the road and play obviously one of the hottest teams, if not the hottest team in the country at their place. We're excited for that game."

How It Happened
Fabian Becerra put the Maroon & Gold on the board early, catching a rebound off Aidan Megally's shot in the 3rd minute. Megally's shot deflected off an Evansville defender and right to Becerra, who was able to send it past Evansville goalkeeper Frederik Reimer. Evansville put up a fight in the first half as Jakub Hall tallied two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Marcel Kampman. The defense took over in the second half as both teams combined for just three shots. In the 49th minute, Loyola saw its best chance for a second goal when Megally sent a rocket right on target, but it was saved by Reimer.

A Look At The Numbers
- Becerra picked up his second goal of the season, while Megally collected his third assist.
- Loyola and Evansville each had five shots, two shots on goal and two corners.
