MVC Women's Basketball Player/Newcomer of the Week Release (February 4)
CHICAGO (February 4, 2019) – Following a pair of standout showings, Loyola University Chicago freshman
Allison Day (Winchester, Ohio/Brown) has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week, it was announced on Monday by the league office. This marks the first weekly league honor of Day's career.
Day fell just shy of averaging a double-double this past weekend, chipping in 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks as the Ramblers split a pair of games against in-state foes.
In Friday's 62-59 win over Illinois State, the Winchester, Ohio native turned in a 13-point, seven-rebound outing that also included a career-high five assists. Day followed that up with her first career double-double in Sunday's 69-56 setback to Bradley, scoring a career-high 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Since being thrust into the Rambler starting five at the start of MVC play, Day has averaged 7.3 points and 6.7 rebounds, reaching double figures in scoring on four separate occasions. The 6-foot-1 forward has hit on 50.8 percent (30-of-59) of her field goal attempts during that span, a mark that ranks seventh in the conference.
Loyola (10-10, 4-5 MVC) is back in action at Gentile Arena this weekend when it opens up the second half of its Valley schedule against UNI (February 8) and Drake (February 10).
