CHICAGO (February 6, 2019) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), a member of the men's basketball team at Loyola University Chicago, is featured in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight.
Named MVC Freshman of the Year and Third Team All-MVC in 2017-18 when he helped lead Loyola to its first-ever Valley regular season and tournament titles, its first NCAA tournament berth since 1985 and first NCAA Final Four appearance since winning the national championship in 1963, the 6-foot-9 center has picked up where he left off. This season, Krutwig has emerged as a MVC Player of the Year candidate by averaging 14.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 assists per game, all while leading The Valley and ranking among the top 10 in the nation with a .653 field goal percentage.
In the classroom, the sophomore is an entrepreneurship major who is owns a 3.41 grade-point average. Last year, he was a member of the MVC Honor Roll.
Krutwig also has been active in the Loyola community, volunteering at Misericordia Heart of Mercy Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital.
To qualify for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
