Ramblers Drop the Series Finale to Evansville in a Five Hour Outing

In Short…
Loyola dropped the rubber match of the series with Evansville 9-1 in a six-inning contest. Katie Kasubke drove in the lone Rambler run of the afternoon and is now two RBIs shy of 100 for her career.

How It Happened
A rainy first two innings of play hindered both starter's ability to locate pitches. With the conditions, it was Evansville that scored despite the weather with seven markers within the first two innings.  A pair of multi-run innings from the Aces put them ahead and in charge before the grounds were deemed unplayable for the eventual delay.

A four run first got them on the board, but only one of the runs were earned. The deficit was widened to 7-0 after the Purple Aces posted another three runs the next time at-bat.

A two hour and 45 minute rain delay paused the action in the top of the third to allow the inclement weather to pass through town. As the sun peaked out and the shadows loomed, a walk and a hit-by-pitch started the Ramblers off the top of the fourth. Needing to generate runs quickly, Katie Kasubke drilled the first pitch of the at-bat she saw to left field to bring home Shannon McGee and get the Maroon and Gold on the board. The visitors maintained their two-runners on, nobody out status, but were unable to cash in for any more runs.

Despite the one run allowed, UE starter Izzy Vetter turned in another winning effort for the Aces just as she did less than 24 hours prior. The righty registered another complete game outing, six inning effort, while totaling five strikeouts.

The seven-run lead was re-established with a double to right center the next half inning after Loyola's score. The Aces then capped the scoring with one more run in the bottom of the sixth that ran the lead to eight and ended the contest earlier than scheduled.

A Look at the Numbers
