Drake Captures both Saturday Games Behind Stellar Pitching Performances

In Short…
Drake dealt two lights out pitching performances en route to a doubleheader sweep of Loyola. Allyson Ivey registered a hit in game two, and has now hit safely in five of her last six games.

How It Happened
Nine Bulldog runs crossed the plate in inning two of the series opener to put the home team ahead and in charge early. Drake also benefited from its ace being on her A-game, as the Ramblers were held off the basepaths in the game's five innings of work by Nicole Newman. Loyola held the Bulldog hitters at bay after the nine-run inning, but Newman logged a three up, three down top of the fifth to secure a 9-0 Drake victory.

Kiley Jones got the ball in game two and allowed just three hits and one earned run to lower her season WHIP and ERA to 1.37 and 2.49 respectively. The rightly began her start with a 1-2-3 inning on balls put in play, and followed it up by working around a one-out walk in the second.

However, the Bulldogs drew first blood in the bottom of the third on an infield single that brought home a runner. With runners on the corners, the Ramblers got out of the inning by catching a Bulldog in the basepaths for a 2-4-2-5 putout.

Now in a 1-0 hole, Loyola had a hard time solving game two starter Nicole Timmons. In a similar fashion to Newman in game one, Timmons tossed a complete game shutout and struck out 12 to stymie the Rambler bats down the stretch, and take game two by the low score of 1-0.

A Look at the Numbers
-Kiley Jones' start was her 12th of the season allowing one earned run or fewer.
-With two walks in game two, Allyson Ivey tied her season high for walks in a game.
-Madison Ebeling recorded her 30th hit of the season in game two, becoming the fourth Rambler to reach the 30-hit clip this season.
-Abbey Jacobsen was credited with a caught stealing putout in each game of the afternoon, increasing her caught stealing percentage to 54 percent on the season (14 for 26).

Up Next
Loyola will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale on Sunday. First pitch is thrown at 11 a.m. at Buel Field.
