In Short…
Loyola fell to Drake, 11-0, in the two team's Sunday series finale. The Ramblers got two hits from
Madison Ebeling and 2.2 innings of zero earned runs allowed from
Madison Veres.
How It Happened
The Ramblers got a double from
Madison Ebeling in the second at-bat of the game to put a runner in scoring position right away. The extra-base hit was her fifth of the season and pushed her total bases number past 40 on her freshman campaign. However, the Ramblers weren't able to cash in and went into the bottom of the first tied 0-0.
The Bulldogs posted four runs in their opening inning to force Loyola into catch up mode the rest of the way. A Nicole Newman double brought home three of the four with one swing of the bat and helped her own cause by giving herself runs to work with in the circle. Loyola managed to get the third out by leaving the bases loaded, but faced a 4-0 deficit after one inning of play.
Drake tallied three more runs in the second to widen the lead to 7-0.
Madison Veres entered the game and stopped the bleeding by dealing 2.2 innings of no run softball and struck out a batter.
The Ramblers got runners in scoring position in both the third and fourth innings. In the third it was Ebeling notching her second hit of the day and advancing to second on a throwing error.
Katie Kasubke squared up a pitch that found the outfield grass the next turn up to bat that put her in the 30-hit club for this season.
After working the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Drake hit a walk-off grand slam to seal up the victory and secure an 11-0 win.
A Look at the Numbers
