CHICAGO (July 12, 2019) – Not only did the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team excel on the court this season, winning its second straight Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship and earning another postseason berth, but it also achieved high marks in the classroom as well.
Today, the Ramblers were honored with a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award after posting a team grade-point average of 3.351 during the 2018-19 academic year. Loyola was one of only two MVC programs to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
To receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2018-19 season.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award is another in a long list of academic accolades for the Loyola program and its student-athletes. Redshirt senior guard
Clayton Custer became just the second student-athlete in Loyola men's basketball history to earn Google Cloud Academic All-America honors when he was named to the third team, following his selection to the Google Cloud Academic All-District V First Team this season. Custer and
Cameron Krutwig were also tabbed MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, while
Bruno Skokna was named honorable mention.
