Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Loyola Upends Drake In Double Overtime, 2-1

The Ramblers move to 5-3-1, (2-1-1 MVC).

In Short
Aidan Megally notched the game winner in the 108th minute to push the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team past Drake, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Buxton Stadium in Indianola, Iowa. The Ramblers move to 5-3-1, (2-1-1 MVC).

Coach Neil Jones' Thoughts
"Today was a fantastic all around team performance against a very good Drake team," Jones said. "Road results are always difficult in the Valley and today was no different. I must thank the Drake administration for their efforts to relocate the game to Simpson College. I'm very proud of the entire group today, and now we prepare for a strong Northwestern team."

How It Happened
The first 24 minutes were quiet for the Ramblers, who didn't record their first shot of the game until Megally scored off an assist from Mike Riley to give Loyola a 1-0 lead. Drake put up three shots on goal in the first half, all of which were saved by Marcel Kampman.

The Bulldogs would find the equalizer in the 61st minute when Scott Misselhorn sent the ball just to the left of Kampman. Loyola continued to find opportunities, putting up eight shots in the second half. In the 89th minute, Justin Sukow made one last attempt to avoid Loyola's third straight overtime game, but it was saved by Drake goalkeeper Luke Anderson.

The first overtime ticked by with little to no action, as Drake put up the lone shot in the 10 minute period. In the second overtime, Megally scored in the final minutes, his fourth goal and second game winner of the season.

A Look At The Numbers
  • In his second match this season, Riley tallied his first assist as a Rambler.
  • Both teams sat even in multiple categories, each recording 13 shots, five shots on goal, one assist and three yellow cards.
  • Kampman continued to stand strong in goal, recording four saves in regulation.
  • Megally's two goals moves him up the scoring chart, now totalling four goals, one assist and nine points this year.
